For Immediate Release:
Bayside, WI: This morning at approximately 7:32 a.m., the Bayside Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from the occupants at 1219 E. Hermitage Road in Bayside reporting the attached garage was on fire and spreading to the home. Police and fire units were dispatched immediately.
On arrival, crews found an attached garage fully involved with fire impinging on the residence. The occupants of the home and two dogs had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency responders. Firefighters were able to also rescue an additional caged pet on the first floor of the home. Crews initiated an aggressive offensive attack using several hose lines; preventing further spread into the living space of the home.
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms were sounding on the arrival of crews. The residents were already up and about the house just prior to noticing the reflection of the fire through the front door of the home. Smoke had not yet breached into the residence where alarms were located; and thus, alarms did not alert the residents until after they had already noticed the fire and self-evacuated.
The garage, two vehicles inside, and a car parked in the driveway near the garage are considered a complete loss. Additionally, there is extensive smoke and some fire damage throughout other portions of the home. The damage estimate to the structure and contents is approximately $275,0000.
There were no injuries to the occupants of the home, the family pets, or the emergency personnel operating at the scene. The cause and exact origin of the fire remains under investigation at this time, but does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
North Shore Fire/Rescue was assisted by the Milwaukee Fire Department, Bayside Police Department and WE Energies on the scene.
