The North Shore Fire Department would like to announce “Fire Prevention Storytime,” a new comprehensive program designed to introduce children ages 2 to 6 years of age to basic fire and burn safety concepts. |
Delivered by our Public Education Specialist, this fun filled thirty-minute program utilizes a story, game and activity sheet to explore a variety of life-saving concepts such as: burn prevention, get low and crawl below smoke, stop-drop-roll, and 9-1-1. |
This free program is being offered to preschools, daycare centers, Mom’s groups and in a variety of additional settings. |
In addition to learning life-saving concepts, this early interaction with members of the fire service instills a sense of comfort and security in young children. With the knowledge that fire personnel are helpers and friends, it is more likely a child will go to a firefighter in the event of a fire, rather than be fearful and hide. This recognition will also help eliminate anxiety, should a child or family member require emergency medical attention from fire department ambulance personnel. Learning to recognize and avoid fire and burn hazards at a young age is key in preventing life-long tragedies in the lives of children and their families. To schedule a Fire Prevention Storytime session, please contact our Public Education Office at 414-228-0292. |
